It seems a new series of Rozen Maiden has just begun! I am not sure if I am very interested as it seems to feature Jun-kun as an adult in an alternate timeline. I wasn't that interested in Jun-kun even as a child. And I like it to be all-doll action all the time! Hee! Well, I would, wouldn't I? Has anyone else seen Rozen Maiden, old or new? And what are your thoughts?

I watched a little old Rozen Maiden but never much warmed to it. It seemed like a very lonely show, somehow.

I do know what you mean. I certainly woud hesitate to recommend it actually. Not that there is anything unsavory or anything, but the way the dolls are pitted against each other in the Alice Game is rather disconcerting, and I don't see any of the metaphysical depth of the later Precure series. I have to confess I am mostly only interested in it because I like the pretty dolls! But don't get me wrong. Of course I wouldn't use this thread as a mere excuse to post pretty pictures.

Oh, I like this picture much better, with its gentle smiles and sunny colors!
I do appreciate pretty dolls, but I think really pretty dolls have pretty hearts that love each other and I never saw that in Rozen Maiden - not that I watched much.
Actually, this reminds me of Cure Utsukushii's Lolita article and I wonder if there isn't a strong metaphor. Down with the Alice Game! Lovely maidens are properly a sentai, battling the darkness together!

Yes yes! I agree completely!
There is kindness in the anime - and Shinku (the one in the center of the above picture) also says down with the Alice game. And she is very right.
But yes they should have pretty hearts that love each other. And funnily enough this picture that we both like best is of Shinku and the two littlies - the ones who can form a real Amity-group.
If Cure Ace were to visit the world of Rozen Maiden, I can imagine how severely she would chide them for their lack of love. I suppose that is why Doki Doki Precure is something we can love and learn from while Rozen Maiden is something we can only look at and find pretty, but ultimately barren.
In fact aren't the two pictures on this page a little paradigm in themselves?
Picture 2: What Rozen Maiden could have been.
Picture 1: What it unfortunately is.

I really adore the Rozen maiden series, so far! I havent seen any recent episodes.. but I am just so obsessed with dolls, A agree with you, Cure Dolly, I would love to have the show be all doll action, hehe!! I adore Shinku, I felt as though she can come off as a bit cold.. but I admire her character! I really love Picture 2, it is so warm and they do indeed look to be close!
I just started watching the Precure series so I do not know yet, how to compare the two.. but I do agree that there was a certain.. cold/lonely quality to the older Rozen Maiden show.

I have a feeling that Shinku is a tiny bit like Cure Ace...
but I won't say more than that as, if you are just starting Doki Doki Precure it would be spoily to say more. But see what you think a little later, and if you remember you could come back and post your thoughts here and we can re-start the discussion.

That is one of the nice things about Precure....all of the seasons are pretty self-contained. The exception of course being the first two. Other than that you can start with any of the seasons...or have a couple going at once!
They are all good! Heeee!
How do you like Futari wa Pretty Cure so far, Bibi-san?

Ohhh, that is good to know, Cure Kiyoku! I think I may just do that and start a later season! Which would you, suggest??
I am enjoying it so far, Cure Kiyoku, I am just now getting to know the characters, though! :-)

My favorites are Doki Doki and Smile (I think I will love Suite too but I didn't have Japanese subtitles for it until recently so I have only seen the first episode).
Doki Doki is coming to an end now and the new Precure should be starting very soon.

Thank you very much for some ideas, Cure Dolly! I think I shall start Doki Doki to watch alongside Futuri Wa!

I definitely think you should also watch the new one when it starts (probably this month). That way you will be up-to-date with the latest one even while you are catching up.
Actually I am very excited myself about being up-to-date. I was very behind with Doki Doki most of the time last year. My Japanese-watching speed was painfully slow. I would carefully read the Japanese subtitles and look up so many words and grammar formations that a single epi was a bit of a marathon. I fell far behind. Then during my months in Japan (sllightly ironically) I had very little chance to see it.
I am much faster now and all caught up with Doki Doki and really looking up to seeing the new one week by week.
